◆ DPF ( Diesel Particulate Filter )
Diesel engines produce a variety of particles during combustion. Wall-flow diesel particulate filters, also known as DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter), usually remove 85% or up to 100% of these particles(soot). And filters are designed to burn off the accumulated particulate either passively through the use of a catalyst or by active means such as a fuel burner which heats the filter to soot combustion temperatures. This burn off process is known as filter regeneration.
Regeneration
is the process of removing the accumulated soot from the filter. This is done
either passively or actively introducing very high heat into the exhaust
system. On-board active filter management can use a variety of strategies:
Fuel burner strategy is mainly used.
especially in retrofit market. And Most of on-board active systems also use extra fuel, whether through burning
to heat the DPF. The additional fuel can be supplied by a dosing unit which has
a metering pump and/or air compressor.
The controller monitors one or more sensors that measure back pressure and/or temperature,
and based on pre-programmed set points the controller makes decisions on when
to activate the regeneration cycle.
During
regeneration cycle, the dosing unit inject the fuel into burner to heat DOC
and DPF upon controller’s signal. The amount of injected fuel must match the amount
of heat demand corresponding to temperature of DOC and/or DPF at given driving conditions.
◆ Fuel Dosing Unit
The main functions of the fuel dosing module include:
- Dosing of the precise amount of fuel necessary to heat DPF, and
- Supplying the air to spray and burn air/fuel mixture in the burner
Dosing unit consists of a solenoid fuel pump, oil-less air compressor and air pressure sensor. It can supply a mixture of fuel/air to burner and delivers the air pressure to the controller.
